Beth Adams, 215-573-8224 Alumni Weekend 2009More than 120 alumni and their guests returned to Penn Dental Medicine during Alumni Weekend 2009, held May 15-16 for classes ending in "4" or "9," to connect with friends and colleagues. Some of this year's activities included "Swashbuckling Dentists," a presentation about Penn Dental Medicine's legends, including Thomas Evans, Zane Grey, and Doc Holliday, student-led tours of the Dental School, an open house in the Virtual Reality Simulation Lab, a conversation with University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann for her annual State of the University report, and the Alumni Picnic. Reunion class dinners were held again this year at the Union League of Philadelphia. Recipients of the 2009 Alumni Award of Merit included Gerald Barrack (D'59), Adi A. Garfunkel (GD'74), Marshall J. Goldin (C'60, D'64), Heber T. Graver (D'56, GR'72), and Adam Stabholz (GD'78). The award, given annually by the Penn Dental Medicine Alumni Society, acknowledges love for and loyalty to the School of Dental Medicine, excellence in the profession of dentistry, and community involvement. Dr. Joan I. Gluch (GR'92), was presented with the Dental Hygiene Alumni Special Achievement Award, recognizing the outstanding contributions of Dental Hygiene alumni to the growth and development of the profession of dental hygiene. The award is given annually by the Penn Dental Medicine Dental Hygiene Alumni Association. Dr. Jaclyn M. Gleber (DH'74) was also honored for her years of service to the Alumni Association.
