More than 225 alumni and their guests attended Alumni Weekend 2007, May 11-12. There was much to celebrate, including reunions for classes ending in "2" or "7" and the recipients of the 2007 Alumni Award of Merit. Some of this year's activities included "Swashbuckling Dentists," a presentation about Penn Dental Medicine's legends, including Thomas Evans, Zane Grey, and Doc Holliday, student-led tours of the Dental School, an open house in the DentSim Lab, and the Alumni Picnic. Reunion class dinners were held again this year at the Union League of Philadelphia.
Make plans now to return to campus for Alumni Weekend 2008, May 16-17, and reunions for classes ending in "3" and "8."

"The excellence and leadership of Penn Dental Medicine are a direct reflection of the commitment and achievements of each and every one of you, and I am most appreciative of all you do to support the School and advance the dental profession."
Morton Amsterdam Dean Marjorie K. Jeffcoat
Please help sustain Penn Dental Medicine's leadership in the profession by making your gift before June 30, the end of Penn's fiscal year. As the cost of excellence continues to rise, so does the need for increased support of the Dental Annual Giving Fund. Whatever the level of your support, your gift will make a difference to our students.
For your convenience, gifts to the Dental Annual Giving Fund can be made in several ways:
Through a secure online transaction with a credit card at the Online Giving web site.
By sending your check, made payable to the "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania," to:
Office of Development and Alumni Relations
Robert Schattner Center
University of Pennsylvania
School of Dental Medicine
240 South 40th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19104-6030
Owners of appreciated securities can obtain substantial tax benefits by transferring those assets directly to Penn. First, you will receive an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock on the effective date of the gift. In addition, you avoid capital gains tax on the transfer. For transfer instructions, please contact the Office of the Treasurer at 215-898-7254 or via email at gifts@pobox.upenn.edu. This will help to ensure both timely receipt and appropriate allocation of the gift. |

University President Emeritus Martin Meyerson passed away on June 2. As Penn's fifth president from 1970 to 1981, Dr. Meyerson drew upon his expertise as one of the nation's preeminent city planners to articulate an integrated vision of "One University," in which all of Penn's schools would collaborate to produce leading-edge teaching and research that benefited society.
A University-wide memorial service will be held this fall. Read a message from President Amy Gutmann. |

The Garden Railway is a miniature world of model trains running on a quarter mile track, set in the splendor of the Morris Arboretum's summer garden. The miniature world features historic buildings created entirely of natural materials, each meticulously detailed with leaves, bark, vines and twigs. Logs and branches are also used to create unique tunnels and overhead trestles. Nestled among woody plants, colorful annuals and perennials, the finished product is an enchanting landscape that never ceases to delight visitors both young and old.
Located in Chestnut Hill, the 92-acre Morris Arboretum is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the official arboretum of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. For more information, visit the Arboretum web site. |
