Nitrous Oxide Refresher Course
Presented by Helen Giannakopoulos, DDS, MD
Saturday, November 17, 2007
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
4 lecture credit hours and 3 hands-on participation hours
Fear and anxiety are major obstacles in the treatment of the dental patient. When used properly, nitrous oxide is safe and effective, providing anxiolysis and analgesia. This course will provide a review this inhalational agent. During the hands-on component of this course, the practitioner will have the opportunity to administer and undergo nitrous oxide sedation, under close supervision. |
| Infectious Endocarditis From A to Z: A historical perspective and current recommendations

Presented by Andres Pinto, DMD, MPH, Brian Strom, MD, MPH, and Frank Silvestry, MD
Saturday, December 1, 2007
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
4 lecture credit hours
This course will provide an overview of the physiology of endocarditis and the rationale behind the provision of antibiotics to patients considered at risk. In addition, epidemiologic evidence underlying the oral spread of infectious organisms will be critically reviewed. The myriad of procedures performed within the scope of dental practice challenges the clinician who is attempting to balance the benefit of preventing endocarditis versus creating antibiotic resistance in a patient having a multiple-visit procedure. In addition, medically complex patients are often already on multiple antibiotics, and the clinician must be familiar with treatment alternatives and dosages. The course will describe the 2007 American Heart Association recommendations for the prevention of infectious endocarditis in adults and children, and provide a practical summary of clinical case scenarios useful to daily dental practice. |

Presented by Myron Nevins, DDS, Arnold Weisgold, DDS, FACD, Morton Amsterdam, DDS, ScD, David Garber, DMD, and Ernesto Lee, DMD, DCD
Monday, December 3 - Wednesday, December 5, 2007
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
21 lecture credit hours
Please note: Limited seating is available for this course
The basic tenets of Periodontal Prosthesis hold true today as they have for the past six decades. However, with a better understanding of the etiology of periodontal disease, the advent of plastic and regenerative procedures, and the incorporation of dental implants, entirely new vistas are available to us today. This intensive three-day program will incorporate these new concepts and modalities in the treatment of the ravages of advanced periodontal disease. It will present the salient features, both surgically and prosthetically, incumbent in their successful management. A sampling of subjects to be covered include: diagnosis and treatment planning, the impact of occlusion, treatment sequencing, prognosis, esthetics, periodontal plastic and regenerative procedures, sinus augmentation, the biologic width, periodontal biotypes, tooth preparation and impressions, laboratory considerations, long-term maintenance, and finally, a retrospective look at what we've learned over the past sixty years, which will hopefully help us address the present day dilemma and controversy surrounding teeth versus implants. |

Staying abreast of current dental research and trends is challenging at best. This program will simplify and deliver the latest research in the field of dental hygiene to enable you to treat your patients. Research that will help both you and your patient control their gingival and/or periodontal disease(s), new AAP classifications that will facilitate recognition and diagnosis of your patients and introduce the latest instruments, technology, and utilization of technology to enhance the results of your treatment, will be discussed. This course is designed for practitioners who would like to update their current knowledge or who may be returning to the practice of dental hygiene. The clinical hands on portion of the program will utilize Typodents in a 1:5, instructor to student ratio and will include root morphology exercises, traditional hand instrumentation, traditional ultrasonic instrumentation, and instrument sharpening. |
