Teaching Awards

These teaching awards are presented annually at the School's Senior Farewell celebration, which serves to welcome the senior class into the Penn Dental Medicine Alumni Society. Members of the senior class vote for the recipients. The awards help encourage and maintain the high standard of teaching at Penn Dental Medicine.

Senior Outstanding Teaching Award Recipients

The Senior Outstanding Teaching Award, is presented to a faculty member who, in the estimation of the Senior Class, has gone beyond the scope of his/her responsibilities significantly impacting the class's educational experience while at Penn Dental Medicine.

Joseph L. T. Appleton Award Recipients

The Joseph L. T. Appleton Award is presented to a part-time faculty member for excellence in clinical teaching. It is named in honor of Dr. Appleton, a member of the Penn Dental Medicine Class of 1914, who served as dean from 1941 to 1951. The Appleton Award was established in 1979 by Abram Cohen, a member of the Penn Dental Medicine Class of 1923, father of former dean D. Walter Cohen, a member of the Penn Dental Medicine Class of 1950.
