Research Interests
Dr. Yuan's research focuses on the switch of Karposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) from latency to lytic life cycle. His laboratory recently identified several immediate-early genes of this virus. The roles of these immediate-early genes in the viral reactivation and pathogenicity are under investigation. The second project in his lab is on the development of novel therapeutic strategies against HIV infection using the external guide sequence (EGS) technique. Dr. Yuan also organizes and teaches the microbial pathogenesis section in Microbiology 520.
