Department of Pathology: About Us

Department Mission:

1. To provide the highest quality of education to dental students, residents, fellows and clinicians

2. To carry out basic and clinical research at the highest quality, originality and creativity relevant to further our understanding of disease processes

3. To provide excellence in patient care by being at the forefront of education and research in oral and maxillofacial pathology

Pathology can simply be defined as the study of the nature of disease. However, pathology has evolved to become a complex and unique discipline recognized as both a basic biomedical science and clinical specialty. Thus, the modern discipline of pathology can be defined as the study of mechanisms and in vitro manifestations of disease. Furthermore, the clinical practice of pathology represents the logical application of scientific method and technology to characterize disease for guiding clinical treatment. Today, the clinical practice of oral and maxillofacial pathology requires that the pathologist assess cellular, molecular and genetic manifestations of disease in order to provide an accurate diagnosis and determine appropriate treatment.

The Department of Pathology is staffed by an outstanding faculty with diverse interests and a commitment to education, research and patient care.
