Department of Pathology: Confocal Facility

Downloading Post Acquisition Software:

The confocal facility currently has two pieces of software available for installation on your laboratory computers for post-acquisition analysis of confocal images.

The first piece of software is the Lasersharp 6.0 program which is used to acquire images on the confocal itself. The offline version of this software offers several post-acquisition analysis options including quantification of fluors, quantification of fluor co-localization, reconstruction of 3-D images, assembling images, etc. Once loaded on your computer, there is no restriction for program use.

The other available software package is the Zeiss LSM 3.01 software. This software package can also quantify fluors and fluor co-localization, reconstruct 3-D images, assemble the images, produce fluor ratios for channel pairs among other things. This software requires a dongle (USB). Because we only have one license, we only have one dongle for use at a given time. For this reason, the dongle will need to be signed out by designated Users (we prefer these individuals be full-time, stable staff members such as technicians, graduate students, Post-doctoral fellows, or Principal investigators).

If you are interested in having a copy of the Lasersharp software, please contact Director Dr. Kelly Jordan-Sciutto and we will provide you with a copy on CD. Alternatively, you can download it directly from the web following the instructions outlined below.

If you are interested in using the LSM software, please provide me with the names, e-mails, and phone numbers of the personnel you would like to have access to the Zeiss LSM 3.01 software and the dongle. The dongle will be signed out from Ms. Valerie Pugh in Room 328 Levy who will keep a log of the current user. Discs with the LSM program are also available if you have not installed this software on your computer already and can be signed out with the dongle.

LaserSharp2000 Software:    

1. Log onto the Zeiss site and FTP server with the user name and password:

ftp://<SerialNumber>@lsm.zeiss.com

2. When prompted enter the following username and password:

         username: customer
         password: customer

3. Go to Folder: BioRad_Area\Customer\LaserSharp2000 and download v5.2 for systems running Windows NT or v6.0 for systems running Windows XP or Windows 2000.

The password for the zip files are:

         5.2 - fullrelease5_2
         6.0 - FullRelease846

Zeiss LSM software (free versions or the version requiring the dongle):

1. Login to the FTP server using user name and the password:

ftp://<SerialNumber>@lsm.zeiss.com

         username: customer
         password: customer

2. Go to Zeiss_Area\Customer\LSM
