Research
The following research projects are ongoing within the Division of Restorative Dentistry:
Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART)
Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) is recommended as a viable approach to treat dental caries in underserved communities in both developing and industrialized countries. ART uses manual excavation of dental caries, eliminating the need for anesthesia and use of expensive equipment, and restores the cavity with glass ionomer, an adhesive material that bonds to the tooth structure and releases fluoride as it stimulates remineralization.
Evaluation of Composite Restorations
The objective of the study is to determine what dental adhesives and materials work best at the gingival margin of a posterior composite resin restoration.
Restorations Post-Surgery
The objective of this research is to define diagnostic and clinical criteria for immediate loading of dental implants in the partially edentulous posterior maxilla and mandible.
