The Offices of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development

The Offices of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development at Penn Dental Medicine support faculty recruitment, development and retention; facilitate communication and collegiality among faculty; and support the administration activities and programs central to the faculty interests at the School and University. In addition, the offices:

•  Advise/guide full-time junior standing faculty in matters relating to achievement of academic success through such processes as mentoring, professional development, and obtaining tenure and/or promotion

•  Assist or counsel junior faculty members in the following activities: understanding the responsibilities of junior faculty members and their mentors; identifying primary mentors; establishing and meeting with the mentoring committee; fulfilling requirements for tenure and/or promotion review; obtaining the necessary tools and documents for all activities; transmitting paperwork to the Provost; and preparing applications for NIH career development and research grants

•  Provide assistance to Department Chairs and senior staff in the process of helping junior faculty to build a successful academic career

•  Ensure that the Penn Dental Medicine mentoring program goals are fully implemented and achieved

•  Meet with dental students and postgraduate trainees about research careers

University of Pennsylvania Office of the Associate Provost
The Associate Provost manages the academic personnel processes including recruitment, appointments, promotions, tenure cases, grievances, oversight of faculty policy changes, and administrative review of faculty policies. Additionally, the Office also maintains the Handbook for Faculty and Academic Administrators.

In order to provide comprehensive services to researchers throughout the University, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research coordinates the Office of Research Services, Office of Regulatory Affairs, University Laboratory Animal Resources, Office of Environmental Health and Radiation Safety, and the Center for Technology Transfer.
