Fear and anxiety are major obstacles in the treatment of the dental patient. When used properly, nitrous oxide is safe and effective, providing anxiolysis and analgesia. This course will provide a review of this inhalational agent. During the hands-on component of this course, the practitioner will have the opportunity to administer and undergo nitrous oxide sedation, under close supervision.
This course will enable the participant to better understand:
The pharmacokinetics of nitrous oxide
The pharmacodynamics of nitrous oxide
The effects of nitrous oxide use
Delivery and scavenging systems
Clinical uses of nitrous oxide in adults and children
Patient selection, preparation, and monitoring
Techniques for nitrous oxide administration
Management of complications related to nitrous oxide
Please note: Pregnant women may not participate in the hands-on session of this course, due to possible risks to the fetus. If you have any medical conditions that may be worsened by receiving nitrous oxide, consult your physician before registering for this class. Participants must also present documentation that they have had previous certification in the administration of nitrous oxide and CPR for participation in the hands-on session. |
