Course Description:

Learn how to master esthetic dentistry in this comprehensive course. From current bonding protocols to direct posterior composites, from laminate veneers to all-ceramic indirect restorations, and from treatment planning with dental implants to designing implant-supported prostheses in complex situation, this course offers what you need to prepare for the challenges of modern-day esthetic dentistry. Based on the most recent research, the four speakers will present an unbiased view of the latest materials and techniques and step-by-step clinical guidelines for their successful integration in your practice. The presentations will include:

Direct Tooth-Colored Posterior Restorations
Presented by Alan M. Atlas, DMD

  • Step-by-step protocols for tooth preparation, choice of materials, placement, and curing methods for direct posterior composite restorations.
  • Scientific analysis of current dentin bonding agents and their clinical application.
  • Application techniques for improving effectiveness of bonding agents and reducing post-operative sensitivity.

The All-Ceramic Update in Esthetic Dentistry
Presented by Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD

Alan M. Atlas, DMD
Dr. Alan Atlas is Clinical Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Co-Director of Restorative Dentistry Clinics at Penn Dental Medicine. He is also a primary care unit group leader in charge of mentoring third and fourth year dental students in advanced clinical dentistry. In addition, he is actively involved in the development and integration of clinical research studies for implants and dental materials at Penn. He holds membership in the Academy of Osseointegration, Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and the International Association for Dental Research. He is a 2006 recipient of the Penn Dental Medicine Alumni Award of Merit. Dr. Atlas is an internationally recognized lecturer focused on applying scientific based protocols to clinical dentistry. He maintains a private practice in Esthetic and Comprehensive Restorative Dentistry located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Markus B. Blatz, DMD, PhD
Dr. Blatz is Chair and Professor of Restorative Dentistry-Clinician Educator in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at Penn Dental Medicine. Prior to joining Penn Dental Medicine in September 2006, he was at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry in New Orleans, where most recently he served as Chairman of the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry and Biomaterials and Assistant Dean for Clinical Research. During his tenure at LSU, Dr. Blatz also directed the Masters of Science in Oral Biology Program. Prior to joining LSU in 2000, he was a senior faculty member (1998-99) and assistant professor (1994-98) in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of Freiburg School of Dentistry, Freiburg, Germany. Dr. Blatz graduated and earned his Doctorate from the University of Freiburg in 1994 and 1998, respectively, and completed a residency in prosthodontics/perioprosthodontics there as well in 1997. Dr. Blatz is also a Diplomate in the German Society of Prosthodontics and Material Sciences. A widely published and internationally respected lecturer, Dr. Blatz's main focus within clinical practice and research is esthetic dentistry with an emphasis on implantology and dental materials, particularly ceramics and adhesion. Dr. Blatz holds editorial positions with numerous professional journals, serving as an associate editor for Quintessence International and Quintessence of Dental Technology, and a section editor for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is also a member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, the Journal of Adhesive Dentistry, Practical Procedures & Aesthetic Dentistry, the European Journal of Esthetic Dentistry, Dental Lab (or) International, and Clinica – International Journal of Brazilian Dentistry and serves as a scientific reviewer for a number of other scientific dental journals. An active member of many professional societies, including the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, Dr. Blatz is the 2005-2006 President of the New Orleans Chapter of the American Association of Dental Research.

Michèle Landolt, DMD
Dr. Michèle Landolt is Director of Implants in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at Penn Dental Medicine. Dr. Landolt graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. After some years devoted to private practice in Zurich, she completed an Advanced Education Program in Implantology at New York University (NYU) and recently graduated from NYU's Postgraduate Program in Prosthodontics.

Najeed Saleh, DMD
Dr. Saleh is Clinical Associate Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Co-Director of Restorative Dentistry Clinics at Penn Dental Medicine.
