Dr. George Huang is Associate Professor, University of Maryland, College of Dental Surgery, Dental School, Division of Endodontics. He received his DDS degree in 1983 from the School of Dentistry, Taipei Medical College, his Certificate in Endodontics, MSD, and his DSc in Oral Biology and from Boston University in 1988, 1989, and 1992 respectively. His research interest is in the area of oral infection and immunity, particularly the inflammatory and innate defense mechanisms in pulpal and periodontal tissues in response to microbial infection. A recent research endeavor has focused on the characterization of mesenchymal stem cells, especially dental stem cells, their potential to differentiate into specialized dental cells such as odontoblasts and the use for dental tissue regeneration.
Dr. Huang's review presentation will give a comprehensive overview of the most updated basic immunology relevant to endodontics, including the recent understanding of specificity of innate immunity and toll-like receptors.
