Philadelphia – Penn Dental Medicine held its 133rd commencement on Monday, May 16, 2011, celebrating the achievements of the 141 DMD candidates and six Master of Science in Oral Biology candidates of the Class of 2011. The ceremony was held in Penn’s historic Irvine Auditorium with a reception for graduates, family, friends, and the Penn Dental Medicine community afterward in the School’s Robert Schattner Center and adjoining gardens.
The commencement program, officiated by Dr. Uri Hangorsky, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, included an invocation by Dr. Joan Gluch, Associate Dean for Academic Policies, and remarks of Dr. Denis F. Kinane, Morton Amsterdam Dean, and Dr. Stefani Cheung, president of the Class of 2011. Presenting the diplomas along with Dean Kinane were Dr. Gluch and Dr. Bruce Shenker, Associate Dean for Research; a number of Penn Dental Medicine alumni who had daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, spouses, and fiancés in the graduating class also joined in diploma presentations of their family members. Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and CEO, Henry Schein, Inc., was this year’s guest commencement speaker.
