Dr. Jonathan Korostoff Promoted to Professor of Periodontics

Philadelphia — Penn Dental Medicine recently announced the promotion of a long-time member of the Penn Dental Medicine community — Dr. Jonathan Korostoff – who has been promoted to the position of Professor of Periodontics. Dr. Korostoff has been a member of the School’s periodontics faculty since 2000, joining the Department as an Assistant Professor of Periodontics in 2000 and serving as Associate Professor of Periodontics since 2003. Yet, his dental career at Penn Dental Medicine spans over 30 years, having earned his DMD here in 1985 and first joining the faculty in 1986 as a research fellow in the Department of Periodontics (1986-1991) and then serving in the Department of Microbiology as a teaching fellow (1991-1993) and Assistant Professor (1993-2000).

“Dr. Korostoff is an exemplary member of the Penn Dental community as a clinician, collaborative scholar, and outstanding educator,” said Penn Dental Medicine Dean, Dr. Denis Kinane, when announcing the promotion. “He is a true Penn Quaker and this is a well-deserved promotion.”

Since 2009, Dr. Korostoff has also served as Program Director of the School’s Master of Science in Oral Biology and the Director of the School’s National Foundation for Ectodermal Dyplasias Dental Treatment Center. Presently, he is also a practicing periodontist in the Penn Dental Medicine Family Practice and an attending periodontist in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Korostoff has been recognized for teaching excellence with a number of awards throughout his academic career, including the J. George Coslet Distinguished Teaching Award from Penn Dental Medicine for postdoctoral periodontics and periodontal prosthodontics (2015 and 2003) and the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching from the University of Pennsylvania, which recognizes faculty from throughout Penn.

Dr. Korostoff also completed his postdoctoral training in periodontics at Penn Dental Medicine in 1993 and earned his a PhD in Immunology at Penn in 1991.
