Dr. Thomas Sollecito Honored by American Academy of Oral Medicine

Philadelphia — Dr. Thomas Sollecito, Professor and Chair of Oral Medicine, has been recognized by the American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM) with the Samuel Charles Miller Lecture Award.

The Miller Lecture Award, presented each year at the AAOM annual meeting, is among one of the highest honors bestowed by the AAOM and is given for outstanding contributions to the field of oral medicine. Dr. Sollecito was honored with the Award at the 2016 AAOM Annual Meeting, which was held in Atlanta April 4 – 9.

As part of the Award process, recipients present a paper reflective of their work in the field at the time of the award. Dr. Sollecito presented his work on global oral medicine curriculum and practice, which helped define an emerging specialty. His lecture also focused on inter-professional education between medicine and dental medicine, citing the discipline of oral medicine as a critical link.

Dr. Sollecito has led Penn Dental Medicine’s Department of Oral Medicine as Chairman since 2009. He also served in the leadership post of President of the AAOM in 2010.

The Samuel Charles Miller Lecture Award was established by the AAOM to honor Dr. Miller, the founder of the Academy.

Dr. Sollecito was also recently a featured guest on the ADA Science Podcast, discussing the field of oral medicine, including oral mucosal diseases, facial pain, and the dental treatment of the medically complex patient. Listen to podcast »
