Philadelphia – The University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine announces the appointment of Dr. Umit Yigit of Boca Raton, Fla., to its Board of Overseers. Dr. Yigit’s appointment to a three-year renewable term was approved by the University of Pennsylvania’s Board of Trustees at their June 18, 2010 meeting.

“Dr. Yigit brings a broad range of experience and talents to his Overseer role,” says Dr. Denis F. Kinane, Morton Amsterdam Dean of Penn Dental Medicine. “His knowledge of dentistry as well as successful business practices will offer an invaluable perspective.”
Dr. Yigit has been an active volunteer and advocate for Penn Dental Medicine and the University for many years. As an alumnus, he has hosted regional receptions for Penn Dental Medicine and has been active in his undergraduate reunion program and many University events in South Florida. Most recently, Dr. Yigit participated in a high-level review panel designed to enhance the quality and operating efficiency of the faculty practices and clinics of Penn Dental Medicine.
A long-time Penn supporter, Dr. Yigit has contributed to the Turkish Scholarship Fund at the School of Arts and Sciences and supported the strategic initiatives at Penn Dental Medicine.
With Dr. Yigit’s appointment, the Penn Dental Medicine Board of Overseers now includes 19 members, who provide volunteer leadership for the School and act as an advisory resource for the Dean and other administrative leaders, while stewarding the missions of both the School and University.
