Course Description

Soft tissue management for dental implants has become crucial not only for enhancing esthetic outcomes of implant therapy but also for improving implant health-related parameters. The long-term stability of peri-implant tissues seems to largely depend by keratinized mucosa width, mucosal thickness and supracrestal tissue height. Several techniques and materials have been investigated for soft tissue augmentation at implant sites, with autogenous grafts that seem to be the treatment of choice. Peri-implant soft tissue dehiscence will also be discussed, including their risk factors, classification and treatment.

Speaker

Lorenzo Tavelli, DDS, MS, graduated from the University of Milan in 2017. He completed his three-year residency in Periodontics and his Master of Science in 2020 at the University of Michigan. His main focus has been to conduct clinical research in periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery, publishing more than 50 scholarly publications in International peer-reviewed journals while serving as a reviewer for several well-known journals in periodontics.

He was the recipients of several research awards, including the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation School Research Award, the first prize at the research competition at the National Osteology Virtual Symposium, the first prize at the research competition at the 3rd International Symposium on Soft tissue management around teeth and implant in Florence, the research award at the Midwest Society of Periodontology and the University of Michigan Ramfjord Award for Excellence. Since July 2020, Lorenzo has joined the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine at University of Michigan as a clinical lecturer.
