Program Goal
The Maxillofacial Prosthetics Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania is designed to prepare post-prosthodontic clinicians to become leaders in head and neck cancer rehabilitation, craniofacial prosthetics, and interdisciplinary surgical–prosthetic care. The program emphasizes advanced clinical training, academic scholarship, and collaborative, evidence-based care within a comprehensive oncologic environment.
Educational Program
This one-year, CODA-initially accredited clinical fellowship provides advanced training in maxillofacial prosthetics at Penn Dental Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Fellows develop comprehensive expertise in the rehabilitation of patients with cancer, trauma, and congenital conditions through advanced clinical care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic scholarship.

Clinical Training
- Maxillofacial prosthetic rehabilitation, including surgical and definitive obturators, palatal and speech prostheses, mandibular resection prostheses, and implant-supported prostheses
- Fabrication and management of facial prostheses
- Integration of digital workflows, including intraoral scanning, 3D printing, virtual surgical planning (VSP), and CAD/CAM prosthesis fabrication
Interdisciplinary Experience
- Active participation in operating rooms with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery teams
- Involvement in tumor boards and multidisciplinary treatment planning
- Clinical integration within oncology care settings
Research and Scholarship
- Engagement in clinical and translational research
- Preparation of manuscripts and academic presentations
Tuition & Stipend
- Stipend: Fellows receive a stipend from the School of Dental Medicine. The expected stipend for this program is approximately $75,000.
- Tuition: This is a non-tuition-based program.
Admissions Process
Applicants are reviewed by the Admissions Committee based on:
- Clinical excellence and strength of prosthodontic training
- Academic performance and residency evaluations
- Communication skills, professionalism, and ability to work within interdisciplinary teams
- Research experience and demonstrated academic interest
- Commitment to a career in maxillofacial prosthetics and oncologic rehabilitation
Eligibility Requirements
- DDS or DMD degree from an accredited U.S., Canadian, or international institution
- Completion of a CODA-accredited Prosthodontics residency
- Applicants in their final year must provide a Letter of Good Standing from their Program Director

Interview Process
Selected applicants will be invited for an onsite interview, which includes:
- Meetings with the Program Director and faculty
- Tour of Penn Dental Medicine and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
- Discussion of clinical experience, academic interests, and career goals
- Optional case presentation or portfolio review
Acceptance Process
Final candidates are selected following the interview process:
- Offers are extended upon completion of candidate evaluation
- Selected applicants will receive formal notification and onboarding instructions
- Only complete applications and successful interviews will be considered for final selection
