Following the Penn Dental Medicine (PDM) mission “to educate pre-doctoral and graduate dental students in the highest quality clinical and research environment”, the Division of Restorative Dentistry is responsible for teaching all preclinical and clinical aspects of comprehensive dental care, fixed and removable prosthodontics, operative dentistry, biomaterials, and general dentistry. In addition, the postgraduate Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics, maxillofacial prosthodontics, and the state-of-the art PDM CAD/CAM Ceramic Center are part of Restorative Dentistry. Led by some of the globally most renown leaders in the fields of restorative and prosthetic dentistry, the department is recognized not only for providing one of the best clinical programs in the world but also as an authority in up-to-date clinical and laboratory biomaterials research, focusing on esthetic dentistry, minimally invasive and adhesive dentistry, implant prosthodontics, novel materials, and modern CAD/CAM technologies. New learning technologies and didactic tools, such as online and blended learning, iBooks, gamification, haptics technologies, and virtual simulation are implemented to adapt to the needs and learning preferences of today’s students.
