Dr. Francesca Ambrogio is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Restorative Dentistry in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at Penn Dental Medicine.
Dr. Ambrogio received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS, DMD equivalent) from the University of Torino School of Medicine in Italy, followed by advanced postgraduate training in Periodontics and Oral Implantology. Before joining academic dentistry in the United States, she spent more than 18 years in private practice in Italy, providing comprehensive dental care with a focus on restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, implant dentistry, and oral surgery.
Prior to joining Penn Dental Medicine, Dr. Ambrogio served as a faculty at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where she held multiple leadership roles in undergraduate dental education, including Dental Undergraduate Program Director, Course Director for the Senior Interdisciplinary Series, Group Leader for fourth-year dental students, and Head of the Dental Emergency Department. She also maintained a faculty practice at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown, providing comprehensive restorative and endodontic care.
Dr. Ambrogio’s academic interests center on operative and restorative dentistry, endodontics, clinical dental education, and curriculum development. She is particularly interested in creating educational environments that foster clinical excellence, critical thinking, professionalism, and evidence-based decision-making. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes integrating scientific knowledge with technical proficiency and compassionate, patient-centered care to prepare students for comprehensive clinical practice.
Throughout her career, Dr. Ambrogio has been actively involved in professional leadership and organized dentistry. She previously served as President and Vice President of the Cuneo Section of the Italian Association of Dentists (AIO), as a National Council Member and National Auditor, and directed continuing education and course accreditation programs for the organization. She has also contributed to faculty governance, student mentoring, and educational scholarship through service at Columbia University.
