Comment on Vital Staining Adjuncts in ADA Living Guideline Program Oral Cancer Recommendations through Nov. 28

Philadelphia — The ADA Living Guideline Program – a collaboration between Penn Dental Medicine’s Center for Integrative Global Oral Health (CIGOH) and the American Dental Association (ADA) — is continuing its work to advance evidence-informed recommendations for the early detection of potentially malignant disorders and cancer in the oral cavity and lips and is once again inviting feedback from the dental community and the public.

Following the first recommendation on brush cytology, the ADA Living Guideline Program is opening a new call for comment on Nov. 17  focused on the use of vital staining adjuncts. Dentists, other healthcare professionals, patients, organizations, and policymakers are encouraged to share their expertise and insights to help shape the upcoming guideline.

Comments can be submitted through ADA.org/GuidelineComments by Nov. 28. To take part, download and review the draft recommendations, register for an optional virtual listening session on Nov. 24 at 5 p.m. CT, and submit comments and feedback via the online form prior to the deadline. Attendance at the listening session is not required to provide feedback.

Feedback from the public comment period will be reviewed and incorporated into the final vital staining recommendations, which are expected to be published in early 2026.

More recommendations on the early detection of oral cavity or lip squamous cell carcinoma and potentially malignant oral disorders will be released for comment in the future.
