Esthetics Symposium June 11-13 Marks Department of Periodontics 60th Anniversary

Philadelphia — Penn Dental Medicine will be celebrating the 60th Anniversary of its Department of Periodontics and the life and contributions of Dr. Morton Amsterdam at the Penn Esthetics Symposium, June 11-13, 2015. The three-day continuing education program, held at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, will cover a full range of topics within osteology, esthetics, implants, periodontics, and prosthodontics.

“With esthetics and the related fields of implantology, tissue regeneration, and biological materials rapidly evolving, the program will offer a unique state-of-the-art perspective on the scientific basis and clinical decision-making necessary for optimal outcomes,” says Dr. Joseph Fiorellini, Chair of the Department of Periodontics. The program features leading clinicians and researchers from across the country and around the world with the June 11 program focusing on surgical interventions on natural teeth and implants and the June 12 speakers addressing the restorative management of natural teeth and implants.

The June 13 program will be the Morton Amsterdam Program and Celebration of Life, paying tribute to the late Dr. Morton Amsterdam (C’43, D’45), the Penn Dental Medicine alumnus and former faculty member who was recognized my many at the father of periodontal prosthesis. “Dr. Amsterdam was an exceptional innovator, educator, and clinician who helped to establish a legacy of leadership for Penn periodontics and periodontal prosthesis and directly mentored many of today’s leaders in the field,” says Dr. Fiorellini. “He is fondly remembered as an example of excellence in clinical dentistry.” A scholarship fund has been established in memory of Dr. Amsterdam.
