Pennsylvania Dental Association Recognizes Dr. Thomas Sollecito

Philadelphia – The Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) recently announced its 2018 award recipients, honoring Dr. Thomas P. Sollecito, Professor and Chair of the Department of Oral Medicine, with the 2018 PDA Recognition Award.

In announcing the award, the PDA Annual Awards Committee reported that it agreed with the board of the Second District Valley Forge Dental Association that “as a Pennsylvania educator, Dr. Sollecito’s contributions to the dental profession have had a huge impact on the next generation of dental leaders.”

The award recognizes Dr. Sollecito’s clinical care, research, and teaching in the areas of oral mucosal diseases, head and neck tumors/cancer, TMD, and HIV dental treatment. An educator for more than 25 years, Dr. Sollecito joined the Penn Dental Medicine faculty after completing his oral medicine residency here in 1991 and has the led the Department of Oral Medicine since 2009. Prior to serving as department chair, Dr. Sollecito directed both the residency program in oral medicine and the oral medicine clinic at Penn Dental Medicine.

Along with his responsibilities at Penn Dental Medicine, where he also served as interim dean from 2008 to 2009, Dr. Sollecito is Professor of Oral Medicine in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery at Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine; Attending in Oral Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania; and a University Associate at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Abramson Cancer Center.

The award will be presented along with the PDA Distinguished Service Award and the PDA Public Service Award at an award presentation ceremony on April 13, 2018.
