Course Description

Atrophy of alveolar ridges following tooth extraction is a common fact and can severely compromise the esthetic and functional rehabilitation of patients. Numerous options of biomaterials and surgical techniques for alveolar ridge management can be overwhelming for the clinician and can lead to improper clinical management. This course is developed to review critical concepts in alveolar ridge management.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand benefits, rationale and limitations of immediate implant placement
  • Understand benefits, rationale and limitations of alveolar ridge preservation
  • Understand how the biologic events during healing of the extraction socket relate to immediate implant placement and ridge preservation concepts
  • Understand the factors involved in the decision making for immediate implant placement vs early implant placement vs ridge preservation and delayed implant placement.
  • Understand key factors for succesful ridge augmentation procedures
  • Understand the effect of abutment macro design on alveolar ridge management
