Description

Periodontal prosthesis is defined as those restorative and prosthetic endeavors that are absolutely essential in the treatment of advanced periodontal disease.
Whereas specifically it refers to the treatment of the dentition mutilated by the ravages of periodontal disease, in general its concepts, principles, and techniques may be employed in any restorative or tooth replacement service involving the natural dentition or dental implants.

The presentation will evaluate the tremendous changes occurred in periodontal prosthesis as a result of introducing dental implants in treating patients with advance periodontal disease or missing teeth:

  • From tooth-oriented treatment plan to implant-oriented treatment plan
  • From analog dentistry to digital dentistry
  • From casting to computer assisted milling
  • From porcelain fuse to metal to monolithic zirconium
  • From esthetically oriented single tooth implant to all implant supported prosthesis
  • And new horizons in understanding the biology of Osseointegration

Objectives

  • Understand what is periodontal prosthesis.
  • Understanding the role of implants in periodontal prosthesis concept and techniques.
  • What are the biological and esthetic challenges in implant supported prosthesis.
  • Understanding bone remodeling around dental implants and the factors responsible for it.
  • Evaluate the possibility in advancing the implant design with a better functional and esthetic outcome.
