Surgical correction of gingival recession and other mucogingival deformities around natural teeth has been shown to be a predictable therapeutic modality. There are numerous techniques with variations which can be used to obtain root coverage and increase gingival thickness however, we cannot always apply the same techniques in all areas of the mouth as different areas have their own unique nuances. Hence, a site-specific approach must be employed to optimize surgical outcomes. While Part 1 focused on the anterior mandible, this lecture will focus on the remaining areas, i.e the maxilla and posterior mandible. Various surgical approaches for treating gingival recession in these areas will be presented along with a critical evaluation of the pertinent literature.
