Description

This presentation will describe the design and outcomes of a three-arm cluster randomized trial conducted in dental public health settings in NYC. Findings suggest strategies for improving implementation and scale up of tobacco use treatment in dental health care.

Speaker

Donna Shelley, MD, MPH
Professor, Global Public Health
Professor of Population Health
New York University College of Global Public Health

Dr. Shelley is a Professor of Global Public Health in the NYU College of Global Public Health (NYU CGPH) and Professor of Population Health at the NYU School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Center for Evidence Implementation and Dissemination at NYU CGPH. Before her move to the College she Co-Directed a Section on Tobacco, Alcohol and Drug Use at the School of Medicine. Dr. Shelley has built a rigorous program of translational, population-based, and policy-relevant research that aims to optimize dissemination, implementation and scale up of tobacco use treatment in safety net health care delivery systems in the US and in Viet Nam. She is also assessing questions of policy implementation; most recently with a grant to assess the impact and implementation of the US Housing and Urban Development Office’s national smoke free public housing policy. She is a member of the National Cancer Institute’s Implementation Science Consortium. Her record of extramural funding includes awards from the National Cancer and Drug Abuse Institutes, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New York State Department of Health’s Bureau of Tobacco Control. Dr. Shelley received her MD from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and MPH in Health Policy and Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
