Penn Dental Medicine
Schattner Pavilion
This summer, Penn Dental Medicine lost an icon with the passing of Dr. Walter Cohen, C’47 D’50, Dean Emeritus and a global leader in the field of periodontics and in the world of dental and medical education. Alumni and friends are invited to join us in remembering Dr. Cohen and his legacy at this special celebration of life.
The Dr. Walter Cohen Scholarship in Periodontics
Dr. Cohen had a worldwide impact on dentistry, but perhaps his greatest legacy was that of a passionate educator and periodontist. He was the founder of the Penn Dental Medicine Department of Periodontics and mentored generations of practitioners and faculty. Thanks to this legacy, Penn continues to attract excellent students who want to study and advance the field. Unfortunately, the high cost of advanced periodontal training continues to be a barrier to many qualified candidates. It is therefore fitting for the institution which launched his career to establish the Dr. Walter Cohen Scholarship in Periodontics. Proceeds from this fund will be used to recruit outstanding dental graduates with the offer to subsidize their postgraduate tuition. All who admired and appreciated Dr. Cohen’s contributions to the field of periodontics are invited to support this exciting new scholarship.
