Accreditation Status
Dental education programs in the United States are accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), a specialized accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Dental education programs are developed in accordance with the established Accreditation Standards for Dental Education, a copy of which can be found on the Commission on Dental Accreditation’s web site at https://coda.ada.org/standards
The following Penn Dental Medicine educational programs are accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation without reporting requirements:
- Pre-doctoral Dental Education Program
- Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Endodontics
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Oral Medicine
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics/Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Periodontics/Prosthodontics
- Advanced Dental Education Program in Prosthodontics
As part of the Commission’s standard accreditation process, all programs are scheduled for their next site visit in 2029, with the exception of the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program, which is scheduled for a CODA site visit in 2030. The initial accreditation site visit for the Maxillofacial Prosthetics Education Program is scheduled for February 12, 2025. Prior to a site visit the Commission on Dental Accreditation invites third party comments from all interested parties. All comments must be submitted to the commission at the address noted below by December 14, 2024.
