The application will open in Spring 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year. Students apply to the program during the spring of their D1 year.

Application Requirements and Procedures:

MSOB Program Application: All applicants must submit an application through the Penn Dental Medicine (PDM) applicant portal.

Application Fee: A nonrefundable application fee of $100 will be collected at the time of application.

GPA: A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 and a cumulative dental school GPA of 3.5.

Letters of Evaluation: Two letters of evaluation are required—one from a current research mentor and one from a former research mentor.

Mentor Selection: Students must identify a research mentor by the fall of their D1 year.

Research Proposal: Applicants must submit an 8-page research proposal developed in collaboration with their research mentor at the time of application.

Personal Statement: A personal statement outlining the applicant’s interest in oral biology research, academic and professional goals, and motivation for pursuing the dual-degree program.

Application Process

The Admissions Selection Committee will review completed applications on a rolling basis. We recommend that applicants submit completed applications with all documents well in advance of the deadlines for consideration. All admitted candidates with be notified by email.

Admitted candidates must submit a commitment deposit fee which can be paid through the PDM applicant portal. Upon successful completion of the Master’s degree, your commitment deposit will be returned in full.
