Professional Biography

Dr. Gates is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery/Pharmacology. Prior to joining Penn Dental Medicine, Dr. Gates served on the Oral and Maxillofacial faculty at Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University (2015-2022), most recently as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Gates holds a D.M.D from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (2011) and completed an internship and residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He also completed a fellowship in head and neck surgical oncology in the Department of Otolaryngology in Lenox Hill Hospital (2019). Dr. Gates has served as a peer reviewer for Head and Neck (2021), the World Journal of Surgical Oncology (2021), the Journal of Oral Cancer and Research (2021), and the Bulletin of the National Research Centre (2022).
