Dr. Miriam Robbins Named Fellow of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia
Philadelphia — Penn Dental Medicine’s Dr. Miriam Robbins, Professor of Clinical Oral Medicine and Restorative Dentistry, and Director of the School’s Care Center for Persons with Disabilities, has been inducted into The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. She was one 27 new Fellows welcomed into the College’s latest cohort of prominent physicians, experts from public health and academia, and civic leaders.
Founded in 1787, the College, home of the Mütter Museum and Historical Medical Library, is a non-profit organization with the mission of “advancing the cause of health while upholding the ideals and heritage of medicine.” Biannually in the fall and spring, the College announces the induction of new members to its prestigious Fellowship program. The new Fellows include leaders in the Philadelphia area and beyond, with Dr. Robbins among nine new members from within the University of Pennsylvania.
Inductees were inaugurated on the evening of Friday, November 15, when they signed their names into the College’s historical register alongside renowned former Fellows, including: U.S. Founding Father Benjamin Rush MD; former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop MD; and Thomas Dent Mütter MD, who bequeathed his pathological collection to create the famous museum in his name.
Fellows support and advise a number of College projects relating to the medical humanities, including the Mütter Museum; Historical Medical Library; HistoryofVaccines.org, a globally recognized vaccination information resource; and several youth programs that assist Philadelphia high school students in pursuing successful careers in healthcare and STEM.
Dr. Robbins is the tenth faculty member from Penn Dental Medicine to be inducted into The College of Physicians.
