Weigh-in on ADA Living Guideline Program Oral Cancer Recommendations by Sept. 12

Philadelphia — The ADA Living Guideline program — a pioneering collaboration between Penn Dental Medicine’s Center for Integrative Global Oral Health and the American Dental Association (ADA) — is issuing a call for comments for the first recommendations in the guideline for the early detection of potentially malignant disorders and cancer in the oral cavity, lips and oropharynx currently in development through the program.

Dentists, healthcare professionals, organizations and policymakers are invited to share their expertise and insight on this topic during the call for comments period.

This project will update a guideline on the early detection of oral potentially malignant disorders and oral cancer, last published in 2017. The first draft recommendations for the early detection of oral/lip potentially malignant disorders and squamous cell carcinoma with cytology adjuncts for this update are available and open for public comment. Comments can be submitted at ADA.org/GuidelineComments.

Those interested in commenting must provide feedback by Sept. 12. The informed recommendations are expected to be released later this year.  A webinar is scheduled for 5-6 p.m. CST on Sept. 10 to help those interested in providing feedback.

More recommendations for early detection of oral cavity/lip and oropharynx squamous cell carcinoma and potentially malignant disorders will be available for public comment in the future.

The ADA Living Guideline program is the first and only known living clinical practice guideline program dedicated to oral health. The goal of the program is to provide dentists and other healthcare professionals continually updated, evidence-informed guidelines to help guide care and improve health outcomes.
