Program Annual Fees

Graduates of a U.S. or Canadian dental school are eligible to receive an annual stipend through the Office of Graduate Medical Education.

All other applicants are required to pay annual program fees if they are selected for the residency program – those fees are outlined in the chart below.

Tuition Fee: Full-time attendance at Penn Dental Medicine.

General Fee: Assessed to all undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, and directly funds Penn’s non-instructional student support services. The General Fee for full-time students provides them with full access to a wide variety of services and resources, including counseling and wellness, multicultural resource centers, student activities, recreation and fitness, career services, learning support, and much more.

Instrument Management Service Fee: Required instrumentation and sterilization services.

Technology Fee: Established to advance and improve computer technology at Penn Dental Medicine.

Dental Clinical Fee: Covers a variety of expenses related to clinical practice including disposable gowns, lab coats, materials and other expenses.

Room and Board: Estimate reflects an average cost of room and board.

Books and Supplies: Includes required classroom supplies, accessories and required equipment.

Personal: Personal expenses specific to attend the program, computer, cell phone allowance, immunizations, etc.

Transportation: Covers expenses related to getting to and from school.

Health Insurance: Covers insurance through the University of Pennsylvania (All full-time students are required to have adequate health insurance).

Clinical fee: Covers usage of Student Health Services.

Additional costs directly related to attending this program may necessitate an increase in the educational budget in order to be able to borrow additional funding, for course and equipment requirements. Please contact the Office of Student Life, 215-898-9988, to discuss the process necessary to apply for a budget increase.

The health insurance is based on single person coverage at the University of Pennsylvania. If you need family coverage the fee will be higher and you may need to request a budget increase. Please contact Penn Dental Medicine, Office of Student Life and Academic Affairs at 215-898-9988.
