Abstract Submission Criteria

Focus: Research Day highlights clinical, translational, basic science, and population health research.
Types of Projects: Research Day typically features projects involving clinical, human, animal, and in vitro studies
Scope: Research Day has a broader scientific research scope, covering a wide range of research areas
Intended Outcomes: Abstracts for Research Day typically involve projects that are intended for publication in journals such as Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Clinical Periodontology, etc.

Submit Your Abstract

 

General Rules and Guidelines

  1. The online submission site must be used for abstract submission.
  2. Individuals may co-author different abstracts but can only present one abstract.
  3. Abstracts cannot be submitted if the research represented by the abstract will be published (online or in print) and/or presented at any other national or international meeting (excluding state, regional or institutional meetings) prior to April 16, 2025.
  4. If selected for presentation, presenters must disclose any conflict of interest.
  5. If selected for presentation, presenters must ensure that the images contained in your presentation follow HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practice and Penn Dental Medicine’s Patient Imaging Management Policy.

Eligibility

All Penn Dental Medicine students are invited to submit an abstract for oral presentation of their posters. Attendance and oral presentation are mandatory for all BTS research honors and summer research students. If you worked in groups, please list all students authors on the abstract. Please note, we only allow one presenter per poster.

Abstract Submission Guidelines

Title: Abstract titles are limited to 20 words. First letter of each word should be capitalized unless there is a preposition. Italicize as appropriate.

Authors: Authors names should be all capitalized and entered as follows: last name, first and middle initials. Affiliations must be listed.

Text: Abstracts are limited to 400 words. Do not include title, authors, or references in the text. Graphics and tables are not allowed. Sponsor, funding agency and grant number should be included under “SUPPORT” in the online submission site.

BTS Research Honors, Summer Research, Other Research/Scholarship Students

Text can be divided into the following titles, however use your discretion:

  1. Background – Emphasize rationale for study
  2. Methods, including statistics if applicable – Briefly describe methodology and experimental design
  3. Results – Briefly describe data
  4. Conclusions – Discuss data and conclusions
  5. Significance/Innovation – Discuss potential relevance or novel findings
