Alonso Carrasco-Labra, DDS, PhD, MSc

Dr. Alonso Carrasco-Labra is an associate professor at the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences and the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He is also the Director of the new Cochrane Oral Health Collaborating Center at Penn Dental Medicine. He is a dentist, and has a master’s degree in clinical epidemiology, and a Ph.D. in health research methodology from McMaster University (Canada).

He has served as clinical practice guideline and policy methodologist for the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO), the World Bank, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), as well as several governments and healthcare agencies worldwide. He also led the Department of Evidence Synthesis & Translation Research at the American Dental Association Science and Research Institute (ADASRI).

He has authored and co-authored more than 120 articles published in peer-reviewed journals in medicine and dentistry and ten books and handbooks for practicing evidence-based medicine and conducting research, including the “Users’ Guide to the Medical Literature” published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) (3rd edition), the book “How to Use Evidence-Based Dental Practices to Improve Your Clinical Decision-Making” published by the American Dental Association in 2020, and the Cochrane Handbook for conducting systematic reviews.

Jan Clarkson, DDS, PhD

an Clarkson is Professor of Clinical Effectiveness and Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Dundee, Associate Dean and Director of the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme NHS Education for Scotland, and Joint Co-Ordinating Editor of Cochrane Oral Health University of Manchester. Her research focuses on the production, synthesis and implementation of evidence to improve routine dental healthcare. She is Chief Investigator on NIHR funded randomised controlled trials in dental primary care totalling £20M that investigate dental interventions for prevention and treatment. As joint co-ordinating editor of Cochrane oral health she manages the production of global priority reviews ensuring efficient updates with emerging new evidence. She leads the production of Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) guidance for dentistry which is widely used beyond the UK and is the only dental guidance with NICE accreditation. The findings of her research have informed policy in service and education and led to changes clinical practice.

Anne-Marie Glenny, PhD

Anne-Marie Glenny is Professor of Health Sciences Research, School of Medical Sciences, University of Manchester, UK. She has worked within the field of evidence-based practice and health service research since 1993 and has extensive experience of conducting systematic reviews and developing evidence-based guidelines in a variety of disciplines, using a range of methods. She is Joint Co-ordinating Editor with Cochrane Oral Health, alongside Professor Jan Clarkson, providing methodological support to international review teams. She participates in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the University of Manchester, promoting the importance of high-quality research to inform clinical practice and policy.

Michael Glick, DMD

Michael Glick is Professor and Executive Director, Center for Integrative Global Oral Health, School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Glick has authored more than 350 publications, including original research articles, editorials, and book chapters, and has authored, edited and co-edited 10 textbooks.

Dr. Glick is the immediate past Dean, School of Dental Medicine, University at Buffalo, past-President of the American Board of Oral Medicine and served as Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of the American Dental Association from 2005 to 2020.

Laurel Graham, MLS

Laurel Graham is primarily responsible for developing and managing the Dental Library, teaching evidence-based dentistry skills and application, and her everyday role is as an information specialist. She incites proper citing, thoughtful study methodology application, and systematic evidence review. Laurel’s wide range of experience includes operational and research expertise, including evidence-based dentistry research, teaching, and systematic reviews. She came to Penn from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry in Chicago, where she worked as Senior Evidence-based Dentistry Manager. Laurel has co-authored Systematic Reviews specifically related to dental medicine. She earned her BA and MLS at the State University of New York, Buffalo.

Tanya Walsh, PhD, MSc

Tanya Walsh is Professor of Healthcare Evaluation at the School of Dentistry, University of Manchester. She is Senior Statistical Editor with Cochrane Oral Health, and former Editor with the Cochrane Diagnostic Test Accuracy Group. Her research interests focus on interventions to optimise oral health. In collaboration with clinical colleagues Tanya has completed many interventional and observational studies for caries management alongside systematic reviews of comparative effectiveness. She has a particular interest in the application of complex methods for evidence synthesis, and has recently completed a Systematic Reviews Programme Grant on methods to detect and inform the diagnosis of dental caries.

Olivia Urquhart, MPH

Olivia Urquhart is an instructor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences and the Center for Integrative Global Oral Health, School of Dental Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. She is editor for the Cochrane Oral Health collaborative Center at Penn Dental Medicine and formerly served as a methodologist for the American Dental Association’s Science & Research Institute where she authored many systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in oral health. Her research interests include evidence synthesis and epidemiologic research methods.
