Held on April 9, the OMFS COVID-19 Response Conference was a forum for oral and maxillofacial surgeons to come together and learn from each other on how COVID-19 has impacted their daily lives.

Take a tour with Dr. Robert Ricciardi of Penn Dental Medicine on how the COVID-19 coronavirus emerged and functions as a pathogen to cause disease. The tour will also view the pathology, assays for its detection as well as vaccine and therapeutic approaches for prevention and treatment.

As we prepare to move forward in whatever phase of the reopening pathway we are on, new and unique privacy and security concerns have arisen. To address these emerging needs including privacy and security issues surrounding teledentistry, patient record management as HIPAA rules are reinstated, and privacy and security issues regarding teaching and exam platforms –current and future.

With a rising prevalence of SARS-COV-2 virus throughout the United States it is critical that practitioners understand the role of testing, contact tracing and infection control in the practice of dentistry.
