PennSmiles at Schools/Community Centers

Penn Dental Medicine brings healthy smiles to children throughout the Philadelphia community. PennSmiles is a mobile dentistry oral health program that travels to area schools, Head Start programs, and other neighborhood sites. Through classroom instruction and the use of the PennSmiles mobile dental equipment, faculty and students of Penn Dental Medicine provide:

  • Preventive and restorative treatment for children
  • Oral health education in classroom settings
  • Referrals to Penn Dental Medicine clinics for advanced dental care when needed

PennSmiles of Penn Dental Medicine is fully equipped to provide on-site care, using mobile dental equipment for dental examinations, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride treatments, sealants, and basic dental fillings. The services offered through the PennSmiles program meet the same high standards of quality care maintained in all Penn Dental Medicine clinics and are provided by experienced Faculty Dentists and dental students. Annually, Penn Dental Medicine faculty and students provide care to an average of 500(+) children in the PennSmiles program working at 25 (+) different schools, Head Start Programs, and community-based organizations in Philadelphia.
