Penn Dental Medicine Building International Ties in Krakow

Philadelphia — Penn Dental Medicine recently expanded its international presence in Europe, presenting the Global Penn Endo-Perio Symposium, December 6-7, in Krakow, Poland, and signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with a university there as well.

The Symposium, presented in collaboration with Profident, drew clinicians from throughout Poland and featured faculty from the School’s Departments of Endodontics, Periodontics, and Preventive & Restorative Sciences addressing the latest science and practice in the fields of endodontics and periodontics.

“We designed the program with a focus on general dentists,” says Dr. Syngcuk Kim, Louis Grossman Professor and Chair, Department of Endodontics, and Associate Dean for Global Affairs and Continuing Education. “Periodontics and endodontics are integral parts of clinical dentistry and general practice clinicians must know the modern treatment modalities to guide their patients to the correct treatment path.”

The program topics included recent research on the relationship between systemic disorders and periodontal diseases; modern conventional and surgical periodontal clinical procedures; the role of implants in periodontal treatment; esthetic restoration of both implant and natural teeth; and the endo/perio relationship.

In conjunction with the Symposium, the delegation of faculty from Penn Dental Medicine also visited Jagiellonian University Medical College where Morton Amsterdam Dean Denis Kinane signed an MOU to facilitate faculty and student exchange and foster collaborative research.
