Apply to the Program

All applicants for admission must complete a course of study leading to an academic degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at an accredited US dental school prior to matriculation.

If accepted, a candidate will be responsible for two- and one-half years of tuition and fees at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Financial aid is available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. In addition, nonpermanent residents of the US are not eligible for federal or school financial aid programs for tuition and expenses while in medical school. Students in this situation must provide documentation certifying the financial resources that will enable them to meet the cost of medical education by placing the funds in an escrow account prior to matriculation. For applicants who do not meet the above financial aid criteria, payment for the full 2.5 years of tuition is due prior to matriculation.

Students can apply to the program through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) with the American Dental Education Association. The deadline for applications received through PASS is October 1st. Applications can be processed online through the PASS web site.

After applying through PASS, you do not need to submit any fee or supplemental materials, unless contacted directly. If you receive an invitation to interview, you will then be asked to submit official transcripts, etc. Again, please do NOT send any materials.

Interviews

Candidates will be interviewed by a committee of faculty and residents. They are ranked for selection through the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program. Interviews for candidates are usually conducted in November or December of the year before entrance and we invite about 20 to 30 applicants to visit. All interviews are performed in the morning and early afternoon. The interview process requires the entire day for activities and interviews. In addition, the day includes a presentation by the medical school and candidates will have an opportunity to meet some of the medical school staff to discuss financial aid. A separate medical school interview is not required.

Tours of the hospital and dental school are conducted by our residents. This provides candidates the opportunity to personally meet the residents and ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere. If you require hotel lodging and travel for your interview there are many choices available online at special rates for your interview. Directions to campus.
