Externships
Re-Welcoming Outside Dental Students as of September 2023
The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania offers 1-week externships in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for interested dental students who are contemplating this discipline. The extern will have the opportunity to work in the outpatient unit; observe major surgeries; and be involved in multiple didactic conferences in orthognathic surgery, pathology, and pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery. Trauma management and emergency room coverage is also a component of the externship. In addition, rotating at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia affords broad exposure to pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery.
