Application Requirements and Procedures

Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year will be accepted between September 1, 2022 and April 8, 2023.

All application materials and documents become property of Penn Dental Medicine and will not be returned to the applicant.

MOHS Program Application – All applicants must submit an application through the through the Penn Dental Medicine (PDM) applicant portal by April 8, 2023 for the class entering August 2023.

Application Fee – The non-refundable application fee is $80. Payment can be made through the CollegeNet application service.

Two Letters of Evaluation — One letter must come from the dean or director of the applicant’s dental school on letterhead stationery with signature. One letter must come from a faculty member of the same institution on letterhead stationery with signature. Letters can be submitted through the CollegeNet application service.

Official TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Score – An official TOEFL score is required for all applicants (including native English speakers) who have received their dental degree from a non-U.S. dental school. Native English speakers may substitute the DAT Reading Comprehension score in lieu of the TOEFL exam. TOEFL scores from July 2018 and later are required for admission.

NBDE Scores – Not required but may be self-reported on the application and are not used for admission consideration.

Unofficial Copy of a Course-By-Course Evaluation of BDS Degree Program – provided by ECE (Educational Credential Creditors. The ECE document should be uploaded to the application.

Application Process

The MOHS Admissions Selection Committee will review completed applications on a rolling basis. We recommend that applicants submit completed applications with all documents well in advance of the April 8 deadline for interview consideration. Interviews will begin in March and final decisions will be communicated in early May. All admitted candidates with be notified by email.

Final decisions for acceptance are based upon review of the application and results from the personal interview. Final acceptance will be determined by the members of the Admissions Committee. Admissions decisions will begin on rolling basis in May until the class is full. A class size of approximately up to ten students is anticipated for the class entering August 2023. Upon acceptance notification, applicants must submit a non-refundable deposit within several weeks of the date of acceptance. The acceptance deposit will be applied toward first semester tuition.

All admitted students will be required to undergo four criminal background checks in order to participate in clinical rotations as part of the curriculum. All admitted students must submit an official copy of the ECE Evaluation of their dental school transcript and submit official transcripts from colleges/universities for course work undertaken in the United States in order to matriculate.
