Epithelial Barrier Study

Principal Investigator: Dr. Dana Graves DDS, DMSc
Study Status: Currently enrolling

The Department of Periodontics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine has a study underway for patients undergoing gum surgery for procedures for “periodontitis or peri-implantitis.” The purpose of this study is to investigate inflammation in the gums around the teeth and around dental implants. On the day of your scheduled surgery at Penn Dental Medicine, eligible participants will give their consent to have two small samples of gum tissue that will be obtained by your dentist during the surgical procedure. Your participation will last for one visit — at the same time you are scheduled for surgery at Penn Dental Medicine. You may be eligible for the study if you are in good general health, age 35 or above, and are scheduled for surgery at Penn Dental Medicine for periodontitis or peri-implantitis.
