Mechanisms of variability in the analgesic response to ibuprofen following third molar extraction

Principal Investigator: Dr. Katherine N. Theken, PharmD, PhD

Study Status: Currently Enrolling

The purpose of this study is to learn how patients who have their wisdom teeth removed respond to the pain-relieving drug ibuprofen. The wisdom tooth extraction surgery will be performed as standard of care. After surgery, patients will be administered ibuprofen and acetaminophen. Patients that may experience severe pain will be given oxycodone to relive the pain.

During the study visits, blood, urine and stool samples will be collected. Additionally, we will collect oral swabs. You may also be asked to complete some questionnaires. The study consists of 4 study visits. In which compensation will be provided per visit (visit-1 $50, visit-2 $100, visit-3 $100, visit-4 $100).
